Read
Highlight or capture ideas from anything you're already reading. Books, articles, newsletters. No new content required.
ReadWriteHabit helps you capture ideas, build a daily writing habit, and actually remember what you read.
Simple by Design
No complicated setup. No new content to find. Just a repeatable system that compounds.
Highlight or capture ideas from anything you're already reading. Books, articles, newsletters. No new content required.
Turn those ideas into short reflections in your own words. You get instant feedback on what you captured and where your understanding broke down.
Build consistency, not perfection. A short daily session is all it takes. The habit compounds and so does your thinking.
Sound Familiar?
You read books. Articles. Newsletters. But a week later it's gone. The ideas don't stick because nothing pushed you to actually engage with them.
You want to write more but don't know what to say. You have ideas from what you've read, but they never make it onto the page.
There's no system, no consistency. Writing feels like starting from zero every time instead of building on what you already know.
The Payoff
This is what people actually buy. Not features. Results.
Writing about what you read forces your brain to actually process it. Ideas stop slipping away a week later.
Your reading becomes fuel for your writing. Every article you finish gives you something real to say.
Streak tracking and a short daily loop make it easy to show up. Consistency beats effort every time.
Putting ideas into your own words exposes gaps in your thinking. You get instant feedback to sharpen both.
Who It's For
Stop highlighting and hoping. Practice active recall on your readings and walk into exams knowing you actually retained the material.
Stay sharp in your field by truly understanding the articles and reports you read every week, not just skimming them.
Get more out of every book, article, and essay. Transform passive reading into an active practice that compounds over time.
The Science Behind It
Cognitive science research consistently shows that retrieving information from memory is far more effective for long-term retention than re-reading the same material. This is called the "testing effect."
ReadWriteHabit applies this principle every session. You can't just re-read. You have to produce an answer, which forces your brain to actively reconstruct what you read. Our feedback then shows you exactly where your understanding broke down.
Studies show active recall outperforms re-reading for long-term memory
Short daily sessions build stronger habits than long occasional ones
Feedback immediately after practice maximizes learning efficiency
Practice with what you're already reading. No new content required.
Built from Real Experience
"I built ReadWriteHabit because I struggled to stay consistent with writing and retaining what I read. I was reading a lot but nothing was sticking, and I never knew what to write about. This is the system that fixed it for me. I use it every day."

FAQ
ReadWriteHabit is a simple daily system for people who want to remember more of what they read and build a consistent writing habit. You paste any article, capture the ideas that matter, write short reflections in your own words, and get instant feedback. Do it daily and both your reading and writing compound over time.
Any text content works: news articles, blog posts, academic papers, book chapters, research summaries, newsletters, essays. You paste the text directly into ReadWriteHabit and practice with what you're already reading.
Re-reading and highlighting create a feeling of familiarity, but research consistently shows they produce weak long-term retention. ReadWriteHabit uses active recall, which means you have to retrieve and articulate information from memory. That's 2โ3ร more effective for retention. The feedback then shows you exactly where your understanding broke down.
Your first 3 practice sessions are free. A credit card is required to sign up, but you won't be charged until all 3 free sessions are used. After that, your subscription starts at $10/month. You can cancel anytime before you're charged.
A typical session takes around 15 minutes depending on the length of the article and your current level. Each paragraph gets its own question or writing prompt. Most articles have 5โ10 paragraphs, so you won't be there all day. Sessions save your progress so you can continue later if needed.
ReadWriteHabit has four skill levels. Level 1: answer multiple choice questions. Level 2: write what the main idea of each paragraph is. Level 3: write a one-sentence summary of the main idea. Level 4: same as Level 3 but from memory, without seeing the text. The app automatically advances you as you complete sessions.
